An excellent short film showing all that happens behind the scenes to get stunning aerial film of an Air France Boeing 787. It’s not as easy as simply flying next to a 787 and pointing a camera out the window. Many, many hours of planning, routing, and aircraft modifications took place, not only to get the remarkable shots, but to make the flight safe.

There are some shots of the director doing sims of the flight on a computer, and it’s hard to tell, honestly.

This is very cool. I’ve been talking with our life flight people about filming their new jet (Citation CJ4) in flight and how we would accomplish that. We don’t have boeing/airbus budgets and won’ t be doing a carbon FAA certified wing gimbal. Frankly I don’t know how or if we can. Filming helicopters are easy because you can legally fly with the door open. Not sure about how were going to do this.

I was about to say, there a lot of dick waving and pilots taking themselves very seriously and non-pilots competing with the pilots for who’s the most manly serious man in this video for Air France but ... you make a good point here.
